Iran, Russia Discuss Armenia Gas Swap: Report

  • TEHRAN, Dec. 30 (Shana) – Iran is negotiating with Russia supplying gas to neighboring Armenia based on a swap scheme, according to a report quoted by the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC).
  • The NIOC Consolidated Planning Directorate quoting National Gas Europe (NGE) said that Gazprom after a meeting between its CEO and minister of energy of Goergia, the Russian firm and NIOC are discussing gas swap to Armenia.
     
    According to the report, Gazprom is in talks with Georgia to increase gas supply to Armenia. Moreover, it is considering swapping Iran’s gas to Armenia.

    Russia exports more than 2 bcm of gas annually to Armenia via Georgia, and Iran imports electricity from Armenia in exchange for pumping about 330 mcm of gas, the NGE report added

    During the visit of Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak to Iran in October and his talks with Iranian Petroleum Minister Bijan Zangeneh, both sides agreed on swap of crude oil, oil products, and gas.
